Flying over the Eolian Islands in a plane you get the impression that you're admiring something from the beginning of the world: the seven islands in the archipelago emerge from the water like fragments of lava anchored to the depths of the sea. Salina island is one of the largest in the archipelago; covered in green vegetation, it has countless beaches and promises countless surprises: coves, grottoes, inlets, stacks, not to mention the unique variety and richness of the sea-bed. Didyme is close to the village of Malfa, in a central position with a splendid view of the sea, and has all the necessary services: a supermarket (and other food shops), several bars where you can also find live music in the evening. Malfa lies in the northern part of the island; and nearby villages include Pollara, famous for the cultivation of capers and for being the backdrop for the set of Massimo Trioisi's film 'The Postman', and Capo Faro, a little village strung out along the road from Malfa to Santa Marina, where you will find several large vineyards. The house, which is built in typical mediterranean style, has been recently renovated and furnished with all modern comforts: air-conditioning in the bedrooms, satellite-TV, dishwasher and washing-machine, a furnished terrace with a view of the sea and a car park. In just a few minutes walk you come to the pebble beach at Scrajo with a crystal-clear, clean sea; just a few metres from the house is the bus-stop that takes you to Rapanui, the only beach with services on the island and where you will find bars, restaurants and a tennis court. We would advise you to come to the island without your car, and to use public transport or maybe hire mopeds or a small car on the island. Capers and 'passito' grapes for producing the well-known Malvasia delle Lipari wine are two of the local island products, and the fish-based local cuisine is excellent. The island is very well connected with Milazzo, the main port for departures from Sicily towards the Eolian islands. Milazzo an easily be reached by sea, by coach, by train and by car, from the Milazzo exit of the Autostrada A20 Messina - Palermo.
